Xbox Twitch Streaming How-To

Streaming on Twitch is immensely popular these days. If you enjoy playing games and watching other people’s stream on Twitch, then you must be wondering how they do it on Xbox. If you want to learn how to do it yourself, we’re here to steer you in the right direction.

Here is how to stream on Twitch from your Xbox:

How to Stream on Twitch from Your Xbox

1. Install the Twitch App and Setup a User

The first thing that you have to do is go to your Xbox store, find the Twitch app, and install it. If you already have a Twitch account but have never streamed from Xbox before, you have to make sure that you use an Xbox Live Gamertag account. You will link this account with your Twitch account. The process is simple:

  • Access the Profile in your Settings menu on Xbox.

  • Select Join Xbox Live.

  • Fill the form: First Name, Microsoft account email address, password.

  • Verify the information, privacy setting, and review the Terms of Use.

  • Select “I Accept”.

2. Link Xbox User Account with your Twitch Account

To complete this process, you will need to be logged into your Twitch account. You can do it on your smartphone or PC. To start the process, you need to open the Twitch app on your Xbox. The app will give you a 6-digit code. You have to visit twitch.tv/activate on your PC or smartphone and enter the code. This will link your Xbox Live Gamertag with your Twitch account.

3. Allow Viewers to See Your Stream

Before you start streaming, you’ll have to enable the broadcast feature so your viewers can see your stream. To do this go to Settings. In the Settings menu, you need to go into Privacy and Online Safety > Xbox Live Privacy > View Details and Customize > Online status & history. Here you will see the “Others can see if you’re online” setting. Choose “Everybody” and you are almost on your way.

4. Enable the Streaming of Gameplay

Next thing you have to do is to enable the streaming of Xbox gameplay. To do this you have to go into Settings > Account > Privacy and Online Safety > Xbox Live Privacy > View Details and Customize > Game Content. On your screen, you will see the “you can broadcast gameplay” setting, where you’ll select “Allow”.

5. Share Content Created Using Camera or Kinect

Finally, you want to enable your account to be able to share content made using a camera or Kinect. To do this, you have to go into Settings > Account > Privacy and Online Safety > Xbox Live Privacy > View Details and Customize > Game Content. Then select “Allow” for the “You can share content made using Kinect or another camera” setting.

6. Add Overlays on Your Xbox Stream

If you want to add a professional touch to your stream, you will need a good-looking graphics overlay. Unfortunately, you won't be able to add it if you use the Twitch app on your Xbox. Don’t worry, you can solve this by using a capture card or specific streaming software.

Capture cards are a very common solution. They record your gameplay on Xbox and stream it through the broadcasting software on Twitch. There are many free capture card programs and installing one is simple. And if you’re not able to use a capture card, streaming from Windows 10 is always an option.

Streaming your Xbox gameplay on Twitch is easy and necessary if you want to be the next big streamer. By stepping up your game and using capture cards and broadcasting software, you can turn your streams into a unique experience and build your audience much faster.
